FLYING MOUNTAIN FLIES AGAIN!

The Canadian folk group Flying Mountain helped establish a west coast sound that is still the benchmark for those who have followed after.    Through four years of touring they played hundreds of concerts and dances all around British Columbia, on the Gulf Islands, in the tiny communities of the BC interior and at festivals and celebrations throughout western Canada.  It has been 27 years since they last played together as a group.  But the spirit of Flying Mountain is still alive.

Their music has been called Òan effervescent celebration of the west coast lifestyle.Ó  Flying Mountain's inspired joyful spontaneity and their creative exploration of musical styles and genres drew a dedicated foundation of thousands of loyal fans during the late 1970s.

The group, which consisted of Dan Rubin on guitar, violin and bouzouki, Satoru Kuba Suttles on guitar and keyboards, Rawn Mongovius on bass, steel guitar and flute, and Fergie Neville on harmonica, congas and percussion disbanded following a European tour in 1981 to pursue their individual careers.

After decades apart, they have just re-released the best recordings from their two original vinyl LPs (ÒEarth and SkyÓ and ÒMountain's Dream) on one killer CD, The Zest of Flying Mountain, which is now available from Blue Island Records, through Festival Distribution.

To celebrate the CD release, the four musicians will meet in Vancouver to perform for one night only at the New Revue Stage on Granville Island on the evening of Sunday, March 9th.

For this evening they will be joined by Vancouver folk-funk band The Wheat in the Barley who will present  a high-energy set of traditional and original fiddle tunes and rollicking songs.

Please help us get the word out about this unusual, one-time celebration of community and spirit of the west coast.
